Winter Sports Updates

As we are winding down the Fall1 season, we share in the anticipation of finding out what a potential winter sports season may look like. At this point (as of Nov. 13) we have some timelines, but still many questions; we should have some answers soon.

Last month, the Office of Environmental and Energy Affairs (EEA) released updated guidelines for sports. These guidelines provide a statewide framework for what sports may be offered and with what types of safety modifications.

There are still a number of statewide and local steps to go through before we will know exactly what the season can look like here in Ashland.  Those steps are outlined below:

MIAA Individual Sport Committees will present their modifications to the MIAA’s Sports Medicine Committee (SMC) by the end of this week

The SMC will send all approved modifications/sports to the MIAA Covid Task Force.

The Task Force will present to the MIAA Board of Directors, who will vote on MIAA sponsored sports for the Winter.

The Tri-Valley League Athletic Directors will meet to finalize a framework for a winter season within our league (we have already been working in draft form)

We will look for local approval within the district, making sure any proposal aligns with our educational structure/plan here in Ashland.

With all of that said, we are opening winter registration for the high school sports listed below so that we can start to get an idea on numbers. We will not be collecting user fees at this time.

*Please note: offerings are subject to change

Alpine Ski, Basketball, Track, Swim & Dive, and Boys Ice Hockey; Medfield for Gymnastics Coop; Medway for Girls Ice Hockey Coop.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out, and as always...GO CLOCKERS!
