Parents, Grandparents and High School Seniors please be aware that this year as in the past the Greater Ashland Lions will be awarding scholarships to further education to students from Ashland High School, Joseph P. Keefe Technical School are encouraged to apply, applications may be obtained at the Guidance Department.
Arbor Day
Arbor Day was celebrated on April 30, at the Ashland Mindless Elementary School with each 4th-grade student given a Norway Spruce seedling to take home and plant. This year our seedlings were purchased through the Massachusetts Tree Wardens’ and Foresters Association (MTWFA) that sponsor an annual packaged seedling program. The seedlings have become a popular Arbor Day promotion to promote municipalities, garden clubs, businesses and the Greater Ashland Lions Club. The proceeds from the seedling program support the MTWFA Scholarship Fund. Scholarships are awarded annually in March to students enrolled in arboriculture and urban forestry programs statewide. The seedlings arrive a few days before distribution and the Greater Ashland Lions package each seedling in a container for traveling home with students.
Arbor Day/Earth Day take place each year in April and is an annual event that encourages tree planting and on-going tree care, it is a day to celebrate the importance of trees and promotes the benefits that trees provide for people and our environment.
