Nancy, “Kindness Lady“ Honored In Art Contest
By now, everyone in town knows the “Kindness Lady,” Nancy. Every morning, she can be found at the crossroads of Main and Front Street, holding a sign that echoes a universal truth: “Kindness Matters.” It is a simple reminder amidst the complexities of life that resonates with all who pass by.
Recently, the town had the pleasure of hosting a crayon drawing contest for the budding artists in the elementary schools. They were given the task of capturing the spirit of Ashland - their favorite spots, their thoughts, and their wishes. Among the numerous submissions from talented artists, one drawing stood out: a beautiful homage to Nancy, created by a young artist named Brady Giles from the Mindess School. In a town filled with countless aspects that could have been depicted, Brady chose to portray Nancy and her message. This choice alone speaks volumes about the impact of her presence, underscoring what Ashland means to him.
Last month, a meeting was arranged between Brady, his family, and Nancy so that he could personally gift his artwork to her. It was a heartwarming and touching moment, as one can imagine. The Town of Ashland’s Selectboard Chair, Brandi Kinsman, also attended the meeting to present Nancy with a special Town clock, expressing the town’s appreciation for her message.
Nancy and Brady serve as a reminder that titles and authority are not prerequisites for shaping the world. It is the heart that counts. Their story illuminates the power that each of us possesses - the power to inspire, to bring about change, and most importantly, to be kind. The town extends its gratitude to Brady and Nancy for their inspiring example.
