Special Election in July

The Select Board voted June 7, to hold a Special Town kp Election July 26, to vote on the following question:
“Shall the Town’s acceptance of Chapter 31 of the General Laws (Civil Service law) in 1957 be revoked for all officers below the rank of Chief within the Police Department?”
Passing this special election question in Ashland would grant the town greater freedom in hiring decisions for officers below the rank of Chief in the Police Department.
With a “yes” vote, the town would no longer be obligated to adhere to the Civil Service law from 1957. This change would enable Ashland to select candidates who best align with the town’s needs and community values. It would introduce flexibility in the hiring process and ensure that Ashland can choose the most qualified individuals. This would contribute to a more efficient and effective Police Department to serve the town of Ashland.
Polls will open at 10 AM and close at 7 PM. All precincts vote at the Ashland High School, 65 East Union St.
You may also vote by mail by filling out a Vote-By-Mail application. An application can be found on the Town of Ashland website. The deadline to apply for a Vote-By-Mail ballot is 5 PM July 19.
