Greater Ashland Lions Club
Happy Thanksgiving – Nov. 27
Many Thanks to those who visited us at our booths at both Dragonfly Faire and Ashland Day.
All monies raised through donations for the cookies will go to Cookies for Kids Cancer. For information, please go to this website: https://my.BeAGoodCookie.org/fundraiser/6556184.
As in the past, again this year we will be collecting gently used coats for children and adults from October to January. Location of collection boxes are: Town Hall (Main St), Starbucks (Union St), Community Center (W. Union St), Shear Perfection (Homer Ave), and the Residence at Valley Farms (Pond St). For further information, please contact Lion Debbi at 508-881-2117.
Our club is supporting Lions International's Mental Health and Wellness initiative by participating in the Letters Against Isolation service project. Our club has sent 215 cards to seniors. Fifty-seven of the 215 cards were written during the Dragonfly Street Fair and Ashland Day events. The cards have been sent to 14 facilities in the U.S. and Australia (in 11 different states).
For more information on this project, go to www.LettersAgainstIsolation.com. This nonprofit was started by sisters during COVID-19. Their Mission Statement is: We fight senior loneliness one letter at a time. Through handwritten messages of love, hope, and joy, our volunteer community connects seniors and improves their mental and physical health.
Lions are always busy. Either helping out where needed or having events to raise money for Eye Research or other organizations supported by Lions Clubs International. These are just some of the organizations supported: Hunger Action Month (World Food Day), Vision (World Blindness Awareness Month), Childhood Cancer, Disaster Relief, Environment (World Cleanup Day) and Humanitarian (International Day of Peace).
For those of you who may have any used eyeglasses or unneeded hearing aids, you may drop them off at the Police Station (located in the Public Safety Building at 12 Union Street), Market Basket (Pond Street / Rte.126), the VFW (at 311 Pleasant Street), or the Town Hall (Main Street).
Do you have Pull Tabs? We still collect them, and they get sent to the Shriners. Contact Lion Rosalie at 508-881-4743 for more information.
Wanting to get involved in the community? We’re a low-pressure group of service-oriented folks always looking for new members. If you'd like to learn more about the Lions and our club, please contact Lion Alexis at [email protected].
