The Ashland School Committee has appointed Mr. Denny Conklin as the next Assistant Superintendent of Schools, succeeding Dr. Michael Caira. Mr. Conklin brings nearly two decades of educational leadership experience, including the past four years as Assistant Superintendent of the Dover-Sherborn Public Schools, where he led districtwide initiatives focused on instructional excellence, curriculum innovation, equity, and professional learning.

Throughout his career, Mr. Conklin has earned a reputation as a collaborative, visionary leader who believes in working alongside educators to improve teaching and learning. As Assistant Superintendent in Dover-Sherborn, he developed and implemented the district's instructional vision aligned with its Portrait of a Graduate, led successful curriculum reviews in mathematics and literacy, strengthened Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) through districtwide data systems, expanded educator professional learning, and advanced equity-focused initiatives that improved outcomes for students.

Mr. Conklin's educational background reflects his commitment to instructional leadership and lifelong learning. He earned both a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction and a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and History from Boston College's Lynch School of Education and Human Development. He also holds Massachusetts licensure as a Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent, Supervisor/Director, History teacher, and Sheltered English Immersion administrator.

Before serving as Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Conklin was the K–12 History and Social Studies Director for Arlington Public Schools, where he led districtwide curriculum development, implemented inclusive co-teaching models, and helped establish systems that integrated MTSS, Responsive Classroom practices, and Youth Mental Health First Aid into school culture. Earlier in his career, he worked with Facing History & Ourselves, facilitating professional learning throughout New England and helping educators build classrooms centered on belonging, civic engagement, and equity.

"He is a relationship-centered leader who balances district-level strategy with a genuine commitment to supporting teachers, students, and families. His experience leading curriculum innovation, strengthening professional learning, and remaining visible in classrooms makes him an outstanding fit for Ashland Public Schools."

Throughout the search process, colleagues consistently described Mr. Conklin as an authentic and highly respected educational leader.

One colleague shared, "I can confidently say that I am a better school leader because of my time on the leadership team with Denny," highlighting Denny's ability to mentor and develop others' leadership.

Instructional staff praised his hands-on approach, noting that, "Rather than leading from a distance, Denny personally modeled lessons in classrooms... earning the genuine respect of educators and driving meaningful educational growth."

Perhaps the strongest endorsement came from a veteran mathematics coach with more than twenty years of experience, who wrote, "I have never seen one individual make a more meaningful and far-reaching positive impact on a district and its community."

Mr. Conklin's leadership philosophy centers on relationships, authenticity, and continuous improvement. Throughout his career, he has emphasized listening to stakeholders, building trust, and ensuring that instructional decisions remain focused on what is best for students. Whether leading districtwide curriculum implementation, supporting educators through meaningful professional learning, or collaborating with administrators to improve instructional practice, he has consistently demonstrated a commitment to excellence and innovation.
