Ghost Light Players of Marlborough Presents Henry V
The Ghost Light Players of Marlborough, MA, is taking a production of Shakespeare’s Henry V to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August. The Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland is the largest yearly performance festival in the world. For three weeks every August, the city of Edinburgh turns into an enormous performance space, with artists from all over the world bringing cabarets, musicals, plays, stand-up comedy, and original work to share with each other. Henry V tells the thrilling tale of an ambitious king struggling to fulfill his royal legacy through war and how his choices impact not only his enemies but his people. This bold new take on Henry V uses intimate staging, modern music, deadly combat, movement sequences, and Shakespeare’s timeless language to show us the bloody cost of war. Boasting five different actors playing King Henry, each recontextualizing the legacy of the classic character and monarch, this historical drama will show audiences what leadership truly looks like in times of conflict and the consequences that follow. Ghost Light Players will be presenting one local performance of Henry V at the Marlborough Senior Center at 40 New Street in Marlborough on Saturday, August 3rd, at 6:00 p.m. This is your only chance to experience this transformative piece of theater before the Ghost Light Players bring the production to Edinburgh. Tickets are $25.00 and can be purchased through the online box office at https://glplayers.ticketleap.com/henry-v/ or at the venue the night of the performance. Ghost Light Players is a non-profit theater group operating out of Massachusetts known for eschewing spectacle and focusing on the creative process. In 2017, they brought a remarkable production of Hamlet to Edinburgh, a culmination of two years of work. In 2023, they completed thirteen seasons of shows with a breathtaking production of Lauren Gunderson’s The Book of Will. The group has now evolved into a repertory-style troupe that will once again share its unique brand of theatre with the world with its production of Henry V at the 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe
